Cushing’s Syndrome Symptoms

The hallmark symptom of Cushing’s syndrome is central obesity, characterized by an accumulation of fat around the abdomen and trunk, often giving a rounded appearance to the upper body. This type of obesity is frequently accompanied by a round, puffy face known as “moon face” and a fatty deposit at the base of the neck called a “buffalo hump.” While central obesity is a key indicator, individuals with Cushing’s syndrome may also experience high blood pressure, muscle weakness, thinning skin, and easy bruising. The syndrome results from prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. The excess cortisol causes these distinctive physical changes and various other symptoms that affect overall health.
